As reported by the Beaumont Enterprise, yet another disastrous multiple-vehicle accident occurred as a result of a speeding 18-wheeler. On Interstate 10, near the Trinity River bridge, an 18-wheeler, was driving at a high rate of speed in the left lane when it suddenly and without signal moved into the right lane, striking a Chrysler LeBaron.
The LeBaron became lodged underneath the speeding 18-wheeler. Instead of slowing to a stop, the 18-wheeler continued to plow down the highway, and with the LeBaron in tow, struck yet another vehicle, an Oldsmobile, and another, a Mercury. The 18-wheeler sped on, pushing both the Oldsmobile and the Mercury in front, and dragging the LeBaron which remained dangerously trapped underneath. Having collected these three vehicles, the 18-wheeler then struck a work van, wielding it into a concrete barrier along I-10.
This five-car wreck required the westbound portion of I-10 to be closed near the accident site for nearly three hours. Numerous people were severely injured as a result of this dangerous and negligent operation of an 18-wheeler.
