A multiple vehicle accident on U.S. 59 outside of Houston has left one person dead and many others injured.
Two vehicles and an 18-wheeler were involved. The 18-wheeler was the cause of the accident. All 3 vehicles caught on fire. The accident occurred around 1 p.m. and shut down all but one of the northbound lanes for roughly 4 hours, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
The 18-wheeler grazed a van and then rear-ended a 4-door Pontiac in slow-moving traffic due to construction along the highway. All three then burst into flames. Near-by police cut the truck driver out of his vehicle and freed him from the pipe that had slid forward into the cab from the load in the back while firefighters worked to control the fire.
The accident occurred in eastern Montgomery County, north of Houston.
