2 Officers Killed in North Carolina Truck Accident

July 9th, 2008 · No Comments

On June 14, a tractor-trailer driving through blinding fog and smoke on a coastal highway in North Carolina struck a sheriff’s deputy and a fire fighter directing traffic early Saturday, killing them both.

North Carolina sheriff’s deputy Steven Boehm, 36, and fire fighter, Gene Thomas, 52, were killed while they were directing traffic in Onslow County along the central North Carolina coast. They were hit by a tractor trailer driven by Robert Kornegay, 51.

Although the 18-wheeler truck had slowed down because of poor visibility, the driver had not slowed enough for the conditions and struck these two officials as well as another deputy Bill Hall, who were on duty at that time. Deputy Hall suffered minor injuries and was treated at a nearby hospital.

The driver of the 18 wheeler, Robert Kornegay, was charged with two counts of misdemeanor death by vehicle and exceeding a safe speed.  For more information, contact the Truck Accident Lawyers at Williams Kherkher.
