The Kansas Highway Patrol implemented a program last year to reduce the number of large-truck-related accidents on the highways. The Trucks on Patrol for Safety, or TOPS program, places HP troopers in the cab with professional truck drivers. Cameras are positioned on the interior and exterior of the vehicle to monitor commercial and passenger vehicle violations.
When a violation occurs, the trooper can contact Highway Patrol officers in the area to have the truck pulled over and the driver issued a citation. At that tim troopers also educate the comercial truck driver on the dangers of large truck driving.
The TOPS program lasts 14 weeks each year. It is seperated in to two seven week periods, each period focusing on a different portion of the state. In this years second session patrol officers issued approximately 600 citations to passengers vehicles and only 100 to comercial vehicle drivers.
If you have been injured in an accident involving a comercial vehicle, contact the Texas Truck Accident Lawyers to discuss your case and your legal options.
