LEXINGTON, Kent. - Solid-waste drivers showed off their skills in a rodeo of sorts, as they wrangled through an eight-event obstacle course on Saturday.
Some of the events included parallel parking a garbage truck, backing it up into an alley, and a serpentine weave between four barrels going forward and backward.
Over 100 driver from 13 states participated in the Solid Waste Association of North America’s 2008 International Road -E-O. The Road-E-O is an event put on to showcase and highlight safety in the waste management industry.

A second person has died following last Wednesday’s firey 18-wheeler accident in Louisiana.
The second victim was the passenger in the Federal Express (FedEx) truck that rear-ended a slower moving 18-wheeler on I-20. He died at LSU Hospital after being taken from the scene of the accident.
The driver of the FedEx truck died at the scene of the accident. Following the accident, police were forced to close both lanes of interstate 20. The accident occurred around 8 in the morning.

Around 6 45 AM of Tuesday Sept. 9 a log truck collided with a train, on Recreation Road 255 about a mile east of U.S. Highway 96, 10 miles north of Jasper in Texas. The driver, William Wayne Hafford, was lucky to escape with mild injuries. He was thrown in a ditch, conscious, but with back injuries. He was transported to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released. No one on the train was hurt.
The collision occurred at a controlled crossing. The westbound log truck failed to stop in time. The engine and 69 cars had already passed through the intersection. Haffford tried to avoid a collision by driving off the road, but could not avoid hitting the moving southbound train at the 50th car. This car was empty. Impact derailed three cars and 6 cars were damaged. The police are investigating how the accident occurred.

LOUISIANA - A wreck involving an 18-wheeler and an SUV held up traffic on the eastbound lanes of I-20 near the Louisiana-Texas state line.
According to police the SUV hydroplaned, spun around and was hit by the 18-wheeler. The woman driving the SUV, a resident of Longview, Texas, had to be cut from the vehicle.
She was taken to LSU hospital for treatment. Two children in her vehicle were not injured, nor was the driver of the 18-wheeler.

BENSON, Ariz. -Two people were left dead after crashing behind a van that was carrying high school cheerleaders rolled on a southern Arizona interstate. The van with three coaches and eight cheerleader was traveling to a football game Friday night about 70 miles away.
According to a report released by the Department of Public Safety, the van’s driver swerved to avoid a dog before the van rolled about 10 miles. An SUV slowed to avoid the crash and was then struck by a semi-truck behind it. Two passengers in the SUV were killed.
